Doctor of Philosophy in Biology

Course Description:

 The Biology Department has Seven PhD programs: Bioremediation, Fish Mycotoxins, Biofortification, Blood Physiology, Animal Physiology, Microbiology, and Immunology.

 PhD in Bioremediation:

 A PhD in Bioremediation is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills in biological processes and their applications in environmental cleanup, for example, wastewater treatment. The curriculum includes foundational courses such as Biostatistics, which provides statistical tools for analyzing biological data, and Biotechnology, which explores the use of biological systems for technological advancements. Specialized courses like Wastewater Treatment, Bioremediation, and Environmental Chemistry delve into the principles and practices of using biological systems to clean pollutants from the environment. The program's research component is central, as students conduct original research under supervision, culminating in a dissertation that contributes to the field of bioremediation. This hands-on experience prepares graduates for careers in academia, industry, or environmental management, enabling them to address pressing environmental issues using bioremediation techniques and contribute to sustainable solutions for environmental pollution.


PhD in Fish Mycotoxins:

 The program on Fish Mycotoxins is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills in understanding and managing mycotoxins in aquatic environments. The curriculum includes foundational courses such as Biostatistics, which provides statistical tools for analyzing biological data, and Clinical Biochemistry, which explores the biochemical principles relevant to fish health. Specialized courses like Advanced Mycology delve into the study of fungi and their toxins, while Biotechnology explores the use of biological systems for technological advancements. Additionally, Advanced Fish Health Management focuses on strategies for maintaining fish health and preventing disease, including the impact of mycotoxins. This comprehensive approach prepares graduates to address the challenges posed by mycotoxins in aquatic ecosystems, contributing to safer aquaculture practices and public health through original research and professional development in academia, industry, or environmental management. 


PhD in Biofortification:

 A program in Biofortification that includes courses such as Biostatistics, Biotechnology, Advanced Plant Physiology, Advanced Molecular Microbiology, and Phytochemical Activities provides students with a comprehensive understanding of both the biological and technological aspects of enhancing crop nutrition. Biostatistics offers statistical tools for analyzing biological data, while Biotechnology explores the use of biological systems for technological advancements. Advanced Plant Physiology and Advanced Molecular Microbiology delve into the physiological and microbial processes that underpin plant growth and health. Understanding Phytochemical Activities allows students to explore how plants produce and accumulate beneficial compounds, crucial for enhancing nutritional content. This combination prepares students to develop and implement biofortification strategies effectively, contributing to sustainable solutions for micronutrient deficiencies through biofortified crops and equips them for careers in academia, industry, or environmental management. 


PhD in Blood Physiology:

 The Blood Physiology program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the physiological processes related to blood and its components. The curriculum includes foundational courses such as Biostatistics, which offers statistical tools for analyzing biological data, and Clinical Biochemistry, which explores the biochemical principles relevant to blood physiology. Specialized courses like Advanced Haematology delve into the study of blood cells and their functions, while Advanced Cell Physiology provides insights into cellular processes that underpin blood physiology. Additionally, Advanced Endocrinology explores the hormonal regulation that affects blood and overall physiological balance. PhD in Animal Physiology:

 A PhD in Animal Physiology that includes modules such as Biostatistics, Clinical Biochemistry, Advanced Endocrinology, Advanced Systematic Physiology, and Advanced Immunology provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the physiological processes in animals. This program equips students with statistical tools for analyzing biological data through Biostatistics and explores biochemical principles relevant to animal health via Clinical Biochemistry. Specialized courses like Advanced Endocrinology and Advanced Systematic Physiology delve into hormonal regulation and systemic functions, while Advanced Immunology focuses on immune responses in animals.  PhD in  Microbiology:

 This PhD program is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in KRI per University decree No. 7/2/5675 on October 9, 2023.
