The Medical Microbiology Department has five PhD. programs: Medical Mycology, Molecular Virology, Bacterial Genomics, Molecular Parasitology, and Microbiology.
The PhD in Molecular Virology delves into the molecular aspects of viral infections, emphasizing bioinformatics, ribosomal profiling, and the biochemistry of viral replication. Students explore the genomic and proteomic characteristics of viruses, develop computational tools for viral genome analysis, and investigate the biochemical mechanisms underlying viral pathogenesis. This specialization prepares graduates for careers in virology research, vaccine development, and antiviral drug discovery, with applications in public health and biotechnology.
The PhD in Bacterial Genomics focuses on the genomic analysis of bacterial pathogens, incorporating bioinformatics, ribosomal profiling, and advanced diagnostic bacteriology. Students investigate bacterial genome structure, gene expression, and evolutionary dynamics, with applications in disease diagnosis, antibiotic resistance, and vaccine development. This specialization equips graduates with skills in genomic data analysis and interpretation, preparing them for roles in research institutions, public health agencies, and biotech industries.
The PhD in Molecular Parasitology explores the molecular biology of parasitic infections, including protozoa and helminths. Students apply bioinformatics and molecular techniques to understand parasite biology, host-parasite interactions, and disease mechanisms. This specialization prepares graduates for careers in parasitology research, drug development, and public health policy, with a focus on reducing the global burden of parasitic diseases.
