World Cancer Day is the one singular initiative under which the entire world can unite together in the fight against the global cancer epidemic. It takes place every year on 4 February. WorldCancer Day aims to save millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and
education about cancer, and pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action against the disease.
The activity committee of faculty of science and health (FSCH) at Koya University organized a successful workshop to commemorate the international cancer day. The workshop was held atthe Koya university auditorium and targeted the university staff and students.
The one-day workshop addressed a variety of topics relevant to the main theme, including the cancer diagnosis, cancer therapies, global equity gap in accessing early detection, and treatment and support services.
The workshop was opened by a welcoming speech by the present of Koya University, Prof. Dr. Wali M. Hamad. In his speech Dr. Wali explained the focuses of Koya University on supporting the academic and non-activates that raising awareness and education amongst students and
university staff. In order to widen the horizons of ideas and to boost the published research quality, he confirmed the university’s policy on supporting cancer research. The first seminar presented by Assist Prof. Dr. Sarmad R. Kareem, dean of school of medicine at
Koya University. His presentation focused primarily on familiarizing participants with major insights into the causes of cancer, the infectious agents, parasites that can lead to cancer, and why some people have cancer.
The second seminar was presented by the representative of World Health Organization (WHO)Dr. Thamer Al hilifi. The overall emphasis of Dr. Al hilifii was a focus on addressing the global burden & Situation analysis, burden of cancer diseases in Iraq, and finally the importance of
screening and early diagnosis.

During the workshop tea beak, the workshop speakers, dean of FSCH, and activity committee members had a round table meeting. The purpose of this roundtable was to be a platform for experience exchange between representatives of executive bodies and Koya University. Also,
the future collaboration between the executive bodies and Koya University was discussed.

The Last presentation of the one day workshop was by a representative of Rebaz foundation, Mr. Arsalan Sadiq. In his presentation, Mr. Sadiq highlighted the role of his foundation in supporting cancer patients. This is in addition to their breast cancer campaign for spread the awareness to the importance of the early and regular checking

Finally, Dr. Taha O. Jalal delivered his closing and thank you speech for speakers and workshop attenders. As sincere gratitude to the panelists and speakers for sharing their expertise, Dr. Taha gave the speakers the university appreciation certificates.
