Community Service Program: A trip to Halsho

Nature of program: This is a voluntary-based, non-credit social program conducted by Koya University students and lecturers.

Objectives: The main objectives of this program are two-fold, to familiarize university students with Kurdistan village life and to offer various community services to people in the village.

Program plan: The program started from 31/4/2013 and ended in 4/5/2013. Twenty five students and two lecturers (from Department of Clinical Psychology) as well as two other lecturers from departments of Sociology and Kindergarten took part in this program. The program was conducted in Halsho village, nearby the boarder with Iran, and included these activities:

  1. Distributing broachers prepared by Koya University about the risk of consanguinity marriage.
  2. Two seminars for men about: dealing with handicapped child, Disadvantages of smoking.
  3. Two seminars for ladies about parenting styles.
  4. Daily cartoon shows for children
  5. Drama about the misconception of mental disorder
  6. Other activities aimed at cleaning surrounding of the village, cleaning the school of the village, assisting people in their daily activities such as constructing houses.  
  7. Daily exercise from 5 to 7 am.
