On Monday 1st December 2014 Koya University in cooperation with Applied Computing Department at Buckingham University held a workshop for Mathematics in Multi-Disciplinary Science and Technology Research
Our guest speaker was Prof. Sabah Jassim from the University of Buckingham with attendance of our University president, vice president for Scientific affairs, vice president for Administration and Financial affairs, Dean of faculty of Science and Health, Dean of Faculty of Engineering together with researchers from Sulaimaniyah university, Raparin University, Garmiyan University and Salahaddin University.
The First Talk was by Prof.Sabah about how one can do research in mathematics in general and how to encourage researchers and students more to realize the importance role of mathematics in recent researching areas including computer science (computing), bioinformatics …etc . Later, Dr.Shwan K. Rachid presented a seminar about Genome project analysis at Genetic centre from koya University. After that, Sabah presented his second seminar about Mathematics and Computation post the genome project whereby he illustrated his recent research activity in the field of computation and future areas of collaboration between Applied computing department and Mathematics and Biology department.
Five PhD students from Applied computing department presented their latest progress in researching at various areas of research. Mr. Abdulbasit talked about emotion recognition in speech and mentioned related mathematical aspects used in his research, which was sparsity and restricted isometry property from the new mathematical field known as compressed Sensing. Then Mr.Azhen presented a summary of his work in Human Gait Recognition. Later, Mrs. Taban illustrated her work on Mammogram Analysis preceded by Mr.Halgurd’s researching progress in Indoor Localisation Scheme. Finally, Mr.Rasper presented his work on Face Biometric Data using Steganography.
